set up to post queries by those people seeking information about
their descendants who traveled to Alaska -- not necessarily to
Wrangell -- and seem to have
disappeared. If you have information, please contact the

LEANDER Axel Albin Leander was
born June 26, 1872 in Lämås, Karlskoga in the province Värmland.
He emigrated to US June 3, 1892 under the family name Augustsson
after his father August Leander Josephsson. I suppose he used
the family name Leander directly after the arrival in US. The
first information I have about him in US is from the Census of
the United States Population from 1910, when he lived as lodger
with Gustaf and Hulda Carlsson at 4415 Souvyer Avenue in
Chicago. After that I have been able to follow him over his
marriage and to his death, but I am interested to know what he
did and where he lived from his arrival in US 1892 till 1910. He
had no children. He got his citizenship in US 1900.
August Alexander Leander was born May 2, 1876 in Lämås,
Karlskoga. He emigrated to US September 9, 1896 also under the
family name Josephsson. I know from he 12th Census of
the US, Population Schedule from 1900 that he most possibly
lived as lodger with Fredrik and Amalia Olson at Wendell Street
17 in Chicago. After that I only know that he was declared dead
1950 in connection with a distribution of an estate here in
Sweden. I am however interested to know what he did and where he
lived between 1896 and 1900. I have not had it confirmed, but it
might be my uncle, who on April 1, 1898 had a son Roy out of
wedlock with Ida Maria Johansson in Chicago. The child died
however already Oct 11, 1898, and Ida Maria married on Nov 22,
1898 Magnus Andersson and had with him 2 daughters. This family
is buried in a family grave at the Mount Olive Cemetery in
Chicago, and to this grave even the body of Roy, who thus could
be my cousin, had been moved.
